OUR PURPOSE: Through cultural enrichment, education, and personal development initiatives, we will provide growth opportunities for people of diverse backgrounds.
What Do We Do?
Our monthly workshops/activities we offer resources and networking opportunities to promote self and professional development for everyone. Through our annual festival, we create a vibrant platform for celebrating African American culture, history, and achievements. This event serves as a cornerstone for community engagement, fostering connections, and promoting diversity, equity and inclusivity.
Each year the Juneteenth of Thomasville- Thomas County Foundation Inc along with NAACP and One Heartbeat Inc along with other partnerships, hosts a Juneteenth Freedom Festival and Celebration on the Saturday after June 19. , It is free and open to the public, with activities geared toward family participation, community unification, and good old fashioned fun. This fun-filled, educational, and uplifting event kicks off with the official Opening Ceremony that includes songs, prayer, proclamations, and presentations on the origin and significance of Juneteenth.
Celebrate Juneteenth: At the heart of the Thomasville-Thomas County Freedom Festival, we celebrate Juneteenth – a day that marks a significant moment in American history when the last enslaved people learned of their freedom. Our festival honors this day through music, dance, and communal gatherings, reminding us of the journey toward freedom and equality.
Empower Through Education: We believe in the power of education to transform lives. Through our mini workshops on finances, health, mental health, education, employment, and social justice, we aim to provide valuable knowledge and skills that empower individuals and strengthen our community.
Promote Cultural Appreciation: Our diverse range of cultural exhibitions, workshops, and performances are designed to deepen understanding and appreciation of African American history and culture. We invite everyone to explore the rich traditions and contributions of the African American community to our shared American heritage.
Foster Community Engagement: The festival is more than just a day of celebration; it's an opportunity for community engagement and unity. From the Children’s Play Village to the Artisans' Marketplace, every aspect of our festival encourages participation, supports local talent, and builds stronger community bonds.
Support Health and Well-being: Recognizing the importance of health and well-being, we host a health fair, blood donation drive, and Manna Drop to provide essential services and support to our community members. These initiatives reflect our commitment to the holistic well-being of our community.
Offer Opportunities for Growth: Through the job recruitment fair and the criminal record restriction/expungement sign-up, we offer pathways to new beginnings and opportunities for growth. We believe in supporting every community member's journey toward personal and professional development.
Celebrate Unity and Freedom: Ultimately, we bring people together to celebrate the enduring spirit of unity and freedom.
